11am, Sunday 3 July

Another fabulous day’s weather here at the UK Motorhome and Caravan Summer Fair in Shrewsbury, on day two, the show’s final day. There’s still time to come on down, pay a visit and be home in time for the men’s tennis final at Wimbledon.

This morning’s bit of interesting news – van converter WildAx is offering a tasty discount of £2,500 on their new motorhomes throughout July and into August. This brings the starting price of their Citroen-based conversions – Constellation, Aurora and Solaris – down below £40,000.

Also, proprietor Duncan Wildman told me there’s been a lot of interest again in their conversions on base vehicles aged between two and four years old, which are currently retailing at less than £30,000.

1pm, Sunday 3 July

We ran a piece in the magazine recently on the new Hyundai iWagon from Wigan-based converter Global Campers, and I caught up with proprietor Daniel Prescott at his stand to look over their latest development: the Debut.

It’s based on the 1.6HDi Citroen Berlingo, which is much more car-like to drive than larger commercial base vehicles. It’s a dedicated two berth, with facing sofas that convert to a 6ft transverse double bed, and end kitchen with microwave, and a corner washroom. It’s just 5.2m long and retails at £26,995.

There’s a huge overcab storage locker, and the option of a flatscreen TV concealed within the dresser by the entry door. It’s an interesting alternative to a daily runaround, and well presented by this family firm.

For more information, call 01942 829 888, or visit Global’s website.

The last interesting sighting of the day was this eye-catching VW T5 conversion from Torbay. The Fusion has leather upholstery throughout, and is beautifully finished.

Well, that’s it for the weekend. Be sure to visit the UK Motorhome and Caravan Autumn Fair at Newark Showground, 3-4 September 2011. We’ll be there, so come and say hello!
