Angry Birds may rule the roost (sorry) for iPhone and iPad gamers at the moment, but anyone who yearns for simpler times as far as computer games go would do well to check out the new Atari’s Greatest Hits app.

Angry Birds may rule the roost (sorry) for iPhone and iPad gamers at the moment, but anyone who yearns for simpler times as far as computer games go would do well to check out the new Atari’s Greatest Hits app.

As you might guess from the name, the app is a collection of computer game classics from the late 1970s and early 1980s. There are 18 arcade games and 92 titles Atari VCS home games console in total, and the app also comes with original game cabinet and box art for that extra retro appeal.

The Atari’s Greatest Hits app is free and comes with Pong — the game that kicked off the whole arcade game craze in 1972. The 25 additional game packs (each containing a handful of titles) then cost 59p each as in-game purchases, or you can get the whole lot for a mere £8.99 and wave goodbye to getting any work done in the forseeable future.

Some games also include a multiplayer option that works over Bluetooth, so you can compete against other nearby players wirelessly.
