Are you unsure about what is required to travel to Europe post Brexit? You are not alone. Research carried out for industry body Discover Ferries revealed confusion over ferry travel, visas, pet passports and EHIC validity, all of which is impacting on consumer confidence (nearly half the respondents wanted some form of reassurance) and holiday plans – a quarter of respondents had delayed making holiday plans until after 31 January.
The reality is that for the remainder of 2020 Britain is in a transition period, while long-term trade deals with the EU are finalised. Although no longer members of the EU, Britons will be able to travel freely around European Union countries and will be subject to EU laws. All valid passports, EHIC cards and pet passports will still be authorised for travel to the EU, with no requirement for new visas. There is also no requirement for drivers to get a green card for insurance or International Driving Permits (IDPs) for the EU, your full driving licence is sufficient during the transition period. And for those who love to stay in touch, data roaming costs remain the same for 2020. If you are still unsure check out the ABTA website, www.abta.com/tips-and-advice/brexit-advice-for-travellers
So, on the touring holiday front, for 2020 at least, it is business as usual.
