Perhaps still feeling flush from recently being named as the UK’s best 3G mobile broadband provider, 3 has announced that it’s offering free mobile access to Facebook’s mobile ‘zero’ site.

Before you get too excited, we should point out that the site, which can be found at, is a barebones, low-bandwidth, version of Facebook that’s ‘optimised for speed’. That means it contains few of the features found at the main site, with no graphics or photos. You can still view photos, but links will redirect you to the standard mobile Facebook site (, for which you will be charged.

Charlotte Blanchard director of products & services at 3, said: “We want to make the mobile internet easy and affordable for everyone. We are delighted to work with Facebook to bring one of the most visited mobile websites to our customers for free. We have the only 100% 3G network in the UK so that we can provide our customers with the very best experience of the mobile internet.”

Facebook Zero is only accessible with mobile operators that support it, so you won’t be able to open the page over a Wi-Fi connection, for example.
