The Hogwarts Express crosses Glenfinnan viaduct on its way to Hogsmeade station. This glorious structure is a backdrop for the flying Ford Anglia in The Chamber of Secrets, and in The Prisoner of Azkaban the Dementors choose it for an ambush site.

A number of places in London appear in the Harry Potter films. You need magical powers to get onto Platform 9¾ at King’s Cross Station, where Harry boards the Hogwarts Express, but a sign shows ‘muggles’ where he vanishes. The big red engine was filmed on Platforms 4 and 5.

At the edge of Windsor Great Park lies Virginia Water, a 130-acre man-made lake created in the 1740s when William, Duke of Cumberland and third son of George II, drained a huge bog. The landscape was changed again more recently when a beach was added temporarily for scenes in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
