There’s no denying that optical discs like DVDs are on the way out, and if you’re comfortable with doing away with them entirely, you could try a digital media player like the August. It’s got a 9” screen and can play movies or music stored on either SD cards or USB flash drives. It also sports a digital TV tuner, so that you can watch up to 40 channels, but this media player’s real trump card is that it can record video as well, so you can store Freeview shows and watch them later. Sadly the video is ‘glitchy’ and the speakers face away from the viewer.
