AutoChem Glass Cleaner
Quantity 500ml
Price £4.99
Tel 0161 764 5981
Web www.tetrosyl.com
Comments After reading the label you could believe that this is the ultimate anti-mist formulation because it's a glass cleaner with an anti-misting agent built in. Given that some anti-mists demand scrupulous, arm-aching, glass cleaning before application, the dual-action formula is beneficial – if it works.
As a glass cleaner, this product is superb. It makes no claims about using the latest nano-technology derived formula. You simply spray it on, wipe it off, and you're left with crystal clear smear-free windows. Sadly, in our misting tests, it performed
little better than untreated glass.
Verdict Great glass cleaner, but poor mist prevention.

Halfords Interior Mist Repellent
Quantity 250ml
Price £5.99
Tel 08457 626625
Web www.halfords.com
Comments Application is quite time consuming. First, all glass to be treated needs to be perfectly clean – no mean feat in most motorhomes. Then, applying the mist repellent requires a lot of elbow grease. It's easy enough to put on but buffing away the resulting haze is hard work: similar to using one of those old-fashioned, hard-to-shift car polishes. And, after all this effort, the results are disappointing. The test section of our screen only stayed mist free for slightly longer than the untreated glass.
Verdict Anti-misting performance doesn't justify the effort of application.

Rain-X Anti-fog
Quantity 200ml
Price £5.99
Tel 0161 935 7490
Web www.rainx.com
Comments Rain-X appears to defy the laws of nature: logic tells us that when warm, damp air hits a cold surface, condensation forms; but with this it doesn't. Close examination shows lots of moisture on the treated glass but somehow the coating doesn't allow the damp to restrict vision. Anti-Fog demands that the glass is perfectly clean, prior to application but at least this product is easy to buff
off once it has been applied.
Verdict Stunningly effective mist preventer.

Rain-X Glass Cleaner with Anti-Fog
Quantity 25 wipes
Price £3.99
Tel 0161 935 7490
Web www.rainx.com
Comments After Anti Fog's top-rate performance we were keen to try out these glass cleaner/anti-mist hybrid wipes. We liked the idea of benefiting from their mist-inhibiting properties without having to clean then treat every inch of glass. Better still, being wipes, you don't have to find a lint-free cloth for anything other than final buffing off. Application is a doddle. The wipes hold more solution than you'd think so a single wipe is almost enough for an entire windscreen. But, as with the AutoChem product (page 69), anti-mist performance is not good enough.
Verdict Easy to use, but poor mist prevention.

Farecla Smart Anti Mist
Quantity 125ml
Price £7.49
Tel 01920 465041
Web www.fareclacarcare.com
Comments Farecla recently launched a range of car-care products and, to stand out in an overcrowded market, the company concentrated on advanced nano-technology formulations. From a usability point of view, we really like this product. You simply spray it on, wipe it off, and that's it: the glass is cleaned and anti-misted in one go. And, it actually works. It's not quite as effective as Anti-Fog (left) or Fog-Clear Gel (right), but it's a close second. Perhaps there is something to this nano-technology lark after all?
Verdict The only cleaner and anti-mist hybrid worth considering.

Mer All Clear
Quantity 500ml
Price £8
Tel 0208 401002
Web www.commaoil.com
Comments This is similar to Halfords' Anti Mist product (page 69) and the application method is the same. That is, a thorough
pre-clean is essential, and a lot of effort is needed
to remove the haze once the product has been applied. In our test, All Clear behaved identically
to the Halfords brew: both test sections began to steam up fractionally after the untreated glass did. And, while the resulting mist
was slightly more opaque than the untreated glass, it just didn't compare with the Rain-X (left) or Comma
(right) products.
Verdict Similar to Halfords' brew, but better value per millilitre.

Comma ProVision Fog Clear Gel
Quantity 150ml
Price £6.95
Tel 01474 564311
Web www.commaoil.com
Comments When we tried Fog Clear, it equalled the performance of Rain-X
(far left) in the misting test. Both products offer nature-defying glass clarity, regardless of how much steam we pumped into the 'van. However, Fog Clear's gel formula goes further than Rain-X and it's quicker to apply.
We like the nano-wipe thrown in, too: used with water, it speeds up the necessary pre-clean.
Verdict Just as effective as Anti-Fog, and nicer to use.

Holts Antimist Cloth
Quantity One cloth
Price £2.95
Tel 0161 4917391
Web www.holtsauto.com
Comments What a clever idea: the next time your 'van's glass steams up, simply use this cloth to wipe the mist away and hey presto! it applies a layer of anti-mist agent at the same time. Or, if you want to plan ahead, the instructions concede that you can breathe on the glass to provide your own misting for application. Hmmm… Given that most formulations demand scrupulously clean, dry glass prior to application, this all seemed a bit too good to be true – and our misting test proved as much. The product managed only the same limited degree of misting resistance as the Rain-X wipes (far left) and AutoChem's glass cleaner (page 69).
Verdict Cheap but not especially cheerful.
