YORKSHIRE-BASED WILDAX motorhomes has launched an all-new wheelchair-accessible model at the Spring Caravan Show at the NEC in Birmingham, in collaboration with mobility specialists Brook Miller.

The Fiat Ducato-based Callisto Independence has been designed from the ground up to accommodate wheelchair accessible features such as entry lifts, chair tie downs and person hoists, with a layout that takes into account the needs of wheelchair users.

The 6.39 metre-long high-top camper has a large, open plan front lounge which incorporates the swiveled cab seats and a side-facing sofa, with a compact side-facing kitchen immediately behind, a spacious, walk-through central washroom and a second lounge in the rear, which makes up into a double bed.

The habitation area has a single level throughout, including the large washroom. The positions of storage units, switches and controls have also been optimised to make them easy to use from a wheelchair. The wardrobe is particularly clever – it slides and can be located above the kitchen when the rear lounge is in use, or above the rear lounge when the kitchen is in use.

The Callisto Independence starts from £39,995 OTR – customers with disabilities will be eligible for VAT relief on that price, subject to a disability declaration. Since each camper is built to order, most of the mobility features are optional, allowing customers to tailor their ’vans to their exact needs. WildAx and Brook Miller are also able to cater to a wide range of design requests beyond what’s available in their official options lists, and they’ll even travel to your home to provide a no-obligations demonstration.
