IF YOU LIKE TO FEEL like a king of the road, one British manufacturer has a tried-and-tested range of luxurious models of you. Grimsby-based manufacturer Auto-Trail, part of the Trigano Group, was evidently thinking big when its designers first came up with the Frontier range. So popular has it proved, that there are now nine luxurious models in the range for 2014.

FRONTIER RANGE

New Fairbourne upholstery in classy beige and dark chocolate tones gives the Frontier range a fresh look for 2014. Livingstone Leather is available as a beautiful cost option on models with fixed beds.

Frontier Navajo

One of the most popular models, The Navajo is the smallest and lightest in the range, being 6.81m (22’4″) long. It’s the only one that is less than 3,500kg and younger drivers won’t need to upgrade their licence to drive it. It manages to offer luxury living in a relatively compact space. The kitchen and habitation door are at the back of the ‘van, with the washroom amidships, opposite the fridge and a useful worktop. Behind the swivelling cab seats are twin facing sofas that convert into a comfortable double bed.

Frontier Mohawk

The additional length of the Mohawke – 7.5m (24’7″) – allows for a luxurious transverse-double bed that you can leave permanently made up. There’s a large storage area beneath it, ideal for bikes, motorbikes, mobility scooters, baby buggies and all kinds of sports gear. There’s a separate shower compartment, plus a washroom. The galley kitchen is in the centre of the ‘van and the facing twin-sofa lounge is up front and features an oval table. Weight: 4250kg.

Frontier Savannah

You have the choice of sleeping in two separate single beds or a double in the Savannah and the beautiful rear bedroom can be divided from the rest of the ‘van, bagging the washroom as an en-suite! It’s 7.6m (24’11”) long. The front lounge has twin facing sofas and the cab seats swivel for sociable evenings in. The main kitchen is on the offside, amidships, opposite the large fridge-freezer and the habitation door. Weight: 4250kg.

Frontier Dakota

The Dakota’s speciality is its large washroom, which takes up the entire rear of the ‘van, providing an ensuite to the luxurious rear French corner bed.  There’s also a comfy forward lounge and the kitchen is in the middle of the ‘van, with the fridge-freezer being next to the habitation door on the nearside. The Dakota comes out at 7.6m (24’11”) long. Weight: 4250kg.

Frontier Delaware

Like the Comanche, this model has a rear island bed, but it has a slightly more compact forward lounge. This model is 7.9m (25’11”) long. Weight: 4250kg.

Frontier Scout

The six-berth hi-line Scout is definitely family-friendly, or suitable for a group of friends. There are two dining areas and the rear lounge converts into a giant double sleeping platform, or two single beds. The overcab double bed benefits from the large skylight above it and the cab seats swivel. This ‘van is 7.9m (25’11”) long. Weight: 4250kg.

Frontier Comanche

With the Comanche we take a step up the range to a model built on the tandem-axle six-wheeler, with Al-Ko Kober galvanised chassis. It’s 8.73m (28’7″) long and weighs 5000kg. There’s a luxurious rear bedroom with an island bed and ensuite washroom. The kitchen is in the centre of the ‘van and there’s a large forward lounge with room for six or more, if you include those swivelling cab seats. Those cream leather seats in the Livingstone Leather cost option pack are rather desirable.

Frontier Arapaho

The palatial tandem-axle luxury Frontier Arapaho is billed as Auto-Trail’s stately home on wheels! In its hi-line version it’s a six-berth, and it maintains versatility by not offering the island bed this time, but a large U-shaped rear lounge/bedroom plus an overcab double bed, plus the forward sofa beds. The Arapaho is 8.73m (28’7″) long and weighs 5000kg.

Frontier Chieftain

This six-wheeler has the best kitchen in the range, and is also chosen for its rear bedroom, with permanent raised double bed with huge full-width locker beneath. You can divide the rear bedroom and ensuite off from the rest of the ‘van if you wish. This model is 8.73m (28’7″) long. Weight: 5000kg.
