A new trilogy of books based on Ian Fleming’s Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is to be published later this year – with a VW camper starring in the title role.

The books, written by Frank Cottrell Boyce, will feature a family where the father has just been made redundant. He begins to self-build his own motorhome, with a VW camper as the base; unknowingly, he fits the original Chitty Chitty Bang Bang engine within the vehicle. The trilogy will follow the adventures of the family in the camper, which has the ability to fly.

The first novel – titled Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Flies Again – will be published by Macmillan Children’s Books on 4 November.
