Le Bois Joly
Website: www.camping-leboisjoly.com

This high-standard, four-star site is worthy of a full five-star rating. The excellent management style ensures a warm and friendly welcome from reception staff. The large, flat, grassy pitches are well kept and marked by medium-sized hedges, with occasional trees to provide summer shade. Gravel roadways lead around the spacious site making the location suitable for larger 'vans.
The immaculate sanitary facilities are housed in a new purpose-built toilet/shower block containing hot showers, toilets, washbasins and dishwashing sinks. Washing machines cost €4 per cycle, and there are dryers and ironing boards available. The site even features facilities specifically aimed at children, such as kids' toilets and baths.
Site fees include 6A hook-up on some pitches, many of which have their own (or shared) water taps.
On-site facilities include a generously sized, unheated, outdoor swimming pool and a heated indoor pool as well as two aquatic slides into a warm pool. All are in excellent condition and very inviting – set off by lovely murals they create a tasteful environment in which the entire family can enjoy themselves. There is also a site shop, bar and restaurant in season, a TV room, pétanques area, children's play equipment, basketball court/football area, table tennis, small rock climbing wall and fishing/canoeing on the nearby river.
In season, various activities are available to keep the children and adults entertained. All site facilities look new and are maintained to a good standard. The nearby river is a little stagnant (although not smelly) and can attract mosquitoes but this is really a minor problem.
Camping Bois Joly is only half a mile from the nearby town of Saint Jean-de-Monts and about one mile from the beach. The area (Vendée) has some large expanses of lovely sandy beaches, many with good promenades and cycle tracks alongside so it is ideal for those who would enjoy exploring the area on bikes.
Secure barriers provide a safe site and they are closed from 11pm to 7.30am ensuring a quiet period. However, out of season the sites in the area are generally quiet, anyway. It is also well lit with a number of street lamps.
The touring pitches are located throughout the site, and a number of new chalets have been tastefully incorporated. This is one of the best Continental sites we have ever visited. The standard of cleanliness is excellent and we highly recommend it – in fact, we enjoyed the site and the surrounding area so much that we lengthened our stay. And, we'd definitely return to this area. l Attractions It is just one mile to the golden, sandy beaches of the Vendée. Here you can tackle active and exhilarating pursuits such as surfing and go-karting, or explore the pretty town of Saint Jean-de-Monts (pictured, above) and Saint Hillaire-de-Riez (pictured, top).
