Tyydyn Du Touring Park
Website: www.tyddyndutouringpark.co.uk
This pretty touring park,
which faces Puffin Island, is barely 300m from the A55 dual carriageway. An undiscovered jewel on the Welsh coastline, it is situated in manicured gardens on a lush hillside, and allows stunning views, from Anglesey to the Great Orme.
Magnificent Mount Snowdon narrow-gauge steam trains, and ferries to Ireland, can be reached within a half-hour's drive of the site. You can also take a thrilling cable-car or tram car trip up the imposing heights of the neighbouring Great Orme.
There is an amazing range of restaurants just a mile away, including Austrian, French and Patagonian cuisine, while nearby Rhos-on-Sea boasts a seafront Swiss restaurant. At the Legend Inn beside, the site entrance, you can sample some traditional Welsh cooking.
One bonus at Tyddyn Du is the easy access to a network of mountain paths. Another attraction is a glorious, long beach just down the hill from the site. Otherwise, the site's main selling point is its tranquility: no statics, no shops, and no children. You can shop for provisions in nearby Penmaenmawr. The only, rather minor, drawback to this campsite is the narrow road with passing places that leads up to the entrance. But don't let that put you off – Tyydyn Du is an oasis of tranquility.
