If you wanted to create a superb site, you could do worse than follow former builder Iestyn Jones' design for Bryn Gloch, just five miles from Caernarfon in north Wales. His 19 years of dedication have resulted in the continuous improvement of Bryn Gloch Caravan and Camping Park in tiny Betws Garmon, near Snowdon. The park has blossomed into a quality oasis amid spectacular lake and mountain landscapes. It won the AA Award for best Campsite in Wales in 2005. Virtually every pitch has its own water and electricity supply as well as drainage for waste water. Your motorhome sits on a king-sized hardstanding which is buffered from the neighbouring pitch by a generous patch of grass ideal for tables, chairs and barbecues. Great thought has gone into Bryn Gloch's layout and expansion plans. Last season, £100,000 was spent on adding a pristine sanitary block with spacious facilities, and establishing a mile-long dog walk and nature reserve bordering the River Gwyrfai. The neat rows or curves all benefit from the mountain setting. Bryn Gloch is well-signed and easy to find on the A4085 Beddgelert to Caernarfon Road. The entrance is a bit narrow and has a couple of scary bends, but after that you pass over the wide railway bridge, under the security barrier, and arrive in a motorcaravanners' heaven. Bryn Gloch is superbly well located for all of North Wales' important attractions. It's close to some of the area's places for great days out, such as Conwy Castle and many of the Great Little Railways of Wales, including the Ffestiniog Railway at Porthmadog, Llanberis Lake Railway, and Welsh Highland Railway.
