Lying seven miles north of the Connel bridge on the A828 Oban to Fort William trunk road, the Camping and Caravanning Club Site is clearly signposted, and has its access road beside a most colourful garden, full of rhododendrons and azaleas which are in full bloom from May onwards.
The height-limited (11ft 2in / 3.4m) park entrance is only a few yards from the main road, and lies within what used to be a walled garden . This provides excellent shelter and ensures calm surroundings. There are some all-weather pitches available on site, although pitches are grass and the majority have electric hook-up.
The site is flat, with most facilities located in the centre of the walled garden. Adjacent to the site is Forestry Commission land, with a wide range of forest/woodland walks and dog walks available directly from the site. Across the main road, on the shores of Loch Creran, is the Marine Resource Centre, while a mile or so south is the Scottish Sea Life Sanctuary, with its dedicated visitor centre.
Oban is just 12 miles south and this town provides a wide range of top-quality shopping
as well as gateways to the Isles via its multitude of Caledonian McBrayne ferry services. Not to be missed is a trip to Tobermory, on Mull, to visit the location of the popular children's television programme 'Balamory'.
Unusually for Camping and Caravanning Club sites - this one boasts a cosy log-cabin bar, operated by the Club itself.
It offers snacks and pub-meals, too. It closes at the end
of September.
This campsite makes an ideal spot for activities such as water sports, as well as exploring the Highlands and islands of Scotland. Note that the Scottish midges enjoy this location, too!
