Woodhouse Farm & Country Park
Website: www.woodhousewinksley.co.uk
Open 17 March–31 October
Woodhouse Farm is one of the most spacious campsites in North Yorkshire. Its three fields are set in the grounds of a 56-acre farm and are separated by ancient trees.
As you approach, though, there is no hint that a large campsite lies beyond the traditional stone farm buildings. Through thoughtful, skilled, landscaping the Hitchin family have retained the farming environment while providing good access, modern facilities and well-kept grounds. Despite having a farm to run, they still manage to be friendly and welcoming hosts, too.
Rather than cramming the 'vans in, the Hitchins have wisely chosen to offer spacious pitches and three play areas for children. Further facilities are to be
found inside the converted farm buildings, including a games room and a launderette. The on-site pub and restaurant, Woodhouse Barn, is open to locals and site residents and sells local ales from the Theakstons brewery.
Visitors to the park are invited to lend a hand during the busy lambing and sheep shearing periods – a super educational bonus for young and old. There is also a pond in which visitors can fish, at this stunning rural site. It is only three miles to Fountains Abbey.
