Stowford Farm Meadows
Website: www.stowford.co.uk

This campsite has it all. Although the owners have started developing lodges, you get the feeling that the site was designed with motorcaravanners in mind. It even has a vehicle maintenance facility which is linked with a useful website www.caravanfaultfinder.co.uk. And there's an on-site dealer, selling Adria, Bailey, Elddis, Fleetwood and Coachman 'vans.
The generously sized touring pitches are set among 500 acres of rolling countryside, and the facilities are great. They include a huge shop, fast food, restaurant, play areas and a heated indoor swimming pool. The bar, which is all beams and wooden floors, is charming, and most of the other facilities are located in sensitively adapted stone farm buildings.
On-site activities include a golf course, riding stables and a woodland walk. Kids will love Petorama, a petting zoo with goats, sheep, pigs, chipmunks, budgies, guinea pigs and rabbits. They even have ferret racing — and yes, they do take bets. The park is located in the heart of North Devon, a mile from the nearest main road along its own private drive.
Here, you will enjoy 500 acres of rolling Devon countryside, mature woodland and lush green camping meadows lined with Beech- and Ash-tree Devon hedges.
Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway
 • It is 14 miles to the spectacle of the near-vertical Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway. This feat of engineering will transport you between the steep cliffs of the two towns, and provides great views. Tel 01598 753486. Web www.cliffrailwaylynton.co.uk.
