Those of us looking to get away from it all and revel in Scotland's remote, rugged scenery can do exactly that at this small Perthshire site. There are just 23 pitches here, which means it remains calm and peaceful at all times. Best of all is the superb view of majestic hills rising away from the site.
The pitches are spread out over two zones: one, an oval area, with pitches positioned mainly around the perimeter, and the other comprising a single row of pitches. All pitches are separated by stretches of well-kept grass, and both areas are sheltered by a mixture of pines and mature deciduous trees. Smaller trees feature in the centre of the oval and create a hoe for wildlife.
The single washblock is basic but clean, and it is kept heated during the colder months. Dishwashing facilities are located in a small adjacent building. There is no children's play area here other than a recreation field, but this hardly matters when there is so much countryside to explore.
Having said that, the site is probably best suited to couples seeking total peace and quiet.
If you do feel the need to get back to civilisation, then Auchterarder is just a 20-minute drive away from the shops and facilities of Stirling and Perth.
Glenturret Distillery
 • 14 miles to the Glenturret Distillery, which has been producing whiskey since 1775, making it Scotland's oldest Highland malt distillery. Take part in the Famous Grouse Experience in the interactive visitor centre. Open all year. Tel 01764 656565. Web www.glenturret.com.
