Black Horse CC Site
Website: www.caravanclub.co.uk

It is immediately clear when you look around this Caravan Club site, that the wardens and their assistants take huge pride in their work. The grass areas are immaculate, the plants and landscaping are attractive and effective at separating the respective fields. The facility buildings are clean and well-heated. Next to the camping fields is a wooded dog walk, and a children's safe play area. Black Horse is a popular stop for those on their way to or from the Continent. Many people use the site as a base for a day trip to France as the ferry port and Eurotunnel are close by. There is a special area for 'one-nighters', accessible 24-hours a day, and no barrier to restrict access. Also, the staff make the effort to pitch motorhomes according to what cross-Channel ferry you are booked on, so other visitors are not unnecessarily disturbed. There are two shower blocks at each end of the site. Both are immaculate and welcoming. There are appealing parent-and-child rooms which have been decorated with cartoon characters by volunteers and are sure to appeal to any reluctant child. Facilities for the disabled are excellent and part of the 'radar' scheme, which means one key fits all locks to the site's disabled facilities. Canterbury, Folkestone and Dover are all just a short drive, or bus journey, from the site. But if you prefer to stay put and explore the local area, there are a host of footpaths and local villages to explore, including picturesque Elham with its pretty square and traditional shops. Across the road from the site is a post office and general store and a pub which serves good food.
 • It is worth making the 30-mile journey to Rye, in East Sussex as this quaint town has much to offer. There are antique shops and delightful little tea rooms down the narrow, picturesque streets, as well as pubs steeped in tales of piracy and smuggling. You might even spot Sir Paul McCartney among the shops, as he has a house in nearby Peasmarsh. Web www.rye-tourism.co.uk.
