Carlyon Bay Caravan Park

This terrific site is run with great care and enthusiasm by the Taylor family. There are several different zones for tourers, each one consisting of a spacious grass area with large pitches arranged around its perimeter and in rows. Of these, just a handful are hardstanding or fully serviced. The setting is delightful, since the site is surrounded by 30 acres of woods, and is dotted with spectacularly colourful rhododendron bushes.
The sanitary facilities are kept spotlessly clean, and exude a touch of luxury, thanks to their marble-effect tiling.
A well-stocked, licensed shop and a restaurant serving food and takeaways add to the relaxed, holiday atmosphere, and some of Cornwall's best loved tourist attractions are within easy reach. But the biggest boon for families has to be the leisure facilities.
In high season, the entertainment laid on for children includes bands and magicians. There are three playgrounds to choose from, an attractive outdoor pool and numerous other activities, while the lack of a clubhouse or other evening entertainment ensures quiet and peaceful holidays.
 • Nine miles to The Lost Gardens of Heligan. This is no ordinary estate; unusual statues rest amid the plants. £7.50 for adults, £4 for children. Tel 01726 845100. Web www.heligan.com.
