Lomond Woods Holiday Park
Website: www.holiday-parks.co.uk
This site benefits from a pretty, woodland, setting two minutes' walk from the shores of Loch Lomond and
a couple of miles from Balloch (from there it is a 20-minute train journey to Glasgow).
There are lots of static caravans on this site, but
these are kept neatly separated from the touring area by a row of trees.
The majority of pitches are hardstanding and very slightly sloping, although not to the extent where levelling blocks are required. A few pitches are grouped within walled areas but most of them are divided either by trees, or by areas of grass. Picnic tables are dotted around the site to add to the relaxing holiday mood. The toilet facility, accessed with a key given to you on arrival, is spacious and even though it looks a little dated, it is kept warm and spotless.
Being so close to the loch, you are allowed to use dinghies and other water sports equipment here. At the loch, you can hire canoes and bikes. The visitor attraction 'Loch Lomond Shores' offers shops, restaurants, exhibitions and nature trails.
Opportunities for walking are endless: in the surrounding Highland hills, in Lomond Woods, and along the Clyde coastline.
38.2 miles to Largs: a hugely popular sea-side town on Scotland's beautiful Clyde coast. Take a walk from the pier, south along the promenade to Carinie's Quay then continue along the path which curves around Largs bay.
