Tyddyn Du Tourist Park
Website: www.tyddyndutouringpark.co.uk
This pretty touring park, which faces Puffin Island, is 300m from the A55 dual carriageway. An undiscovered jewel on the Welsh coastline, it is situated in manicured gardens on a lush hillside, and boasts 180-degree views from Anglesey to the Great Orme. This adults-only park is enthusiastically run by Pam Watson Jones and her team.
Magnificent Mount Snowdon, narrow-gauge steam trains and ferries to Ireland can all be reached within a half-hour drive of the site. You can also take a cable car or tram trip up the imposing heights of the Great Orme.
You'll be spoiled for choice if you want to eat out. There is a wide range of restaurants just a mile away, and nearby Rhos-on-Sea boasts a seafront restaurant.
If you would rather savour some traditional Welsh cooking, this can be found at the Legend Inn beside the site entrance.
One bonus at Tyddyn Du is the easy access to a wide network of mountain paths. Another great attraction is a glorious long beach just down the hill from the site. Otherwise, the site's main selling point is its quiet simplicity: there is no shop, no static caravans, and no children.
You will have to rely on the shops in nearby Penmaenmawr for provisions, but you will find an immaculate, modern, toilet and launderette facilities building on site. In fact, the only minor drawback is the narrow approach road, with passing places, that leads to the park.
6.7 miles to Conwy castle, one of the most picturesque of Welsh castles and a masterpiece of medieval military architecture.
