This is a quiet, inconspicuous and friendly site owned, and run, since 1989 by Richard Peterken and his daughters, Mandy and Debbie.
The site is set out across several level paddocks, just off
a secluded lane. The first three paddocks, close to the huge dog walk, are reserved for tourers with dogs. Only 20 such visitors are allowed on site at a time, and usually only one dog is permitted per pitch. All pitches are supplied with electrical points, 80 per cent of which are all-weather hard-standing pitches, and 29 are full-service.
The large, modernised reception area houses a small shop selling newspapers, milk and all the basics, plus motorcaravanning essentials.
A daily newspaper booking service is available. There are videos for hire and a book exchange, as well as the usual tourist information service. The reception area also houses
the main toilet/shower building.
The site was originally set up for families with children. Then, in 1999, the Peterkens saw a niche in the market and took
a chance, converting their park
to accommodate only adults aged 30 and over.
Their bold decision proved wise and now Chacewater is
a very popular destination.
It's often filled with teachers
on half-term or vacation breaks. Over 60 per cent of the bookings for June and July are pre-booked by guests from previous years, and at least 85 per cent of the clientele are over 50 years old. And, due to the Peterkens' policy of continuing improvement, we will see more facilities for handicapped visitors in years to come.
As pleasant as it is to sit and relax on your pitch, with a view of old mining chimneys on the adjacent hillside, Chacewater Park makes a convenient base from which to visit many places in Cornwall. It is only a ten-minute drive to Truro and close to Redruth, Camborne, Falmouth and the Roseland Peninsula, as well as the beaches and Coastal Path on both the north and south coasts.
