Great escapes to South Devon

This region offers the very best of the English coast and countryside
South Devon is much more than just half a county – it's several holiday destinations in one. The region is a unique blend of ancient and modern, where history rubs shoulders with the new and the different.
The area is most famous for the brash, noisy English Riviera: Torquay, Paignton and Brixham, which are set around the coastal area of Torbay. But more traditional, sedate resorts, such as Dawlish and Teignmouth, are worth visiting too.
There's plenty to do away from the beach. At the foot of the county lie the South Hams, an area of outstanding natural beauty and unspoiled charm, where villages and ancient smugglers' coves await you at the end of winding lanes. Devon also boasts both the brooding wilds of Dartmoor and the great maritime city of Plymouth.
There is something for all tastes, whatever the weather. Glorious red-sand beaches and warm water beckon when the sun shines, but even when it rains, aquariums, zoos and even caving means a day in Devon is never dull.
