Hello everyone
Hello everyone.
My name is Nigel D and I'm going to be helping out Rob, Sarah, Jeremiah and Kate on the Practical Motorhome forum.
I work in the same office, but a shuffle around with jobs has given me a job that gets me more involved with PM. It's nice for me as I used to work on the magazine from 2003 - 2006 and since then have been the editor of Practical Caravan.
Don't hold that against me though! I properly caught the touring bug when Mrs D and I toured Europe in a £1000 Freight Rover Sherpa with a Reimo conversion in 2003. (TOH 701Y - are you still out there!)
Since then, we've toured extensively around the UK and Europe, most recently in an old car and caravan to Croatia using a combination of Camping Cheques, ACSI card and good old fashioned bartering. We both love travel and can't wait to get away in the new year.
My interests are really in technical stuff and I have a real hankering to knock up a self-build on an (ultra) budget. I'm pretty good on damp repair, 12v electrical, sat tv and loads of other bits.
Anyway, good to say hello, hope you enjoy the forum and I look forward to seeing you all around!
I know what you mean. I was looking for a Transit (had already worked out that VWs were out of my price range) but the Sherpa was a shock. Narrow, heavy steering and a terrible heater but 2ltr O-series petrol with overdrive 3rd/4th got us around 12k miles without missing a beat*
*Apart from throwing a rear crank oil seal before we got on the ferry at Newcastle, but that was technically before we set off!
Look forward to speaking to you more!

Welcome Nigel.
One of the things I like about this forum is the way magazine staff are all actively involved. The ancient campervan makes you sound like my kind of motorhomer - shame it was a Sherpa though!
Looking forward to hearing more from you.
