Dear All,

If you are struggling to get your posts to appear on the Forum and you are using the latest version of Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE9), I'm afraid we need you need to configure your browser to resolve a compatibility issue.

To do this, in the browser window:

Click on Tools

From the drop down box which appears click on Compatibility Settings from the
 Compatibility View menu.

In the dialogue box which will open from Compatibility Settings type
practicalmotorhome.com into the 'Add this website' box

 Click the 'Add' button

The full instructions with graphics etc can be viewed Here

Hope this is helpful, but any questions, please email and we'll try and sort it out!

Hi Nigel, When I click on tools in IE9 on my Win7 64bit comp, the "drop down" does not have "compatibility view" in the box. So I am having to use use my old XP comp. Not really a problem as I use both most days. Just thought that I would mention it.  B43

I no longer use IE.  I find Google Chrome to be more user friendly.  I recall having the same problems in IE with a missing "compatibillity view" in the dropdown menu but to the right of the address bar is a compatibillity icon that looks like a sheet of paper torn into 2 pieces.  Click on that icon  and Robert is your cousin's father.

I see from the Tech forum that some people are still having problems posting.

Would it not be more effective for the site designers to fix the compatibility problems once and for all rather than leave it and cause frustration for new users (who probably don't stay as a result)? Fixing the system is the aapproach which always used to be taken during my time in IT.

I agree wholeheartedly Graham - especially as it's usually me who points new people to this thread when I see their blank posts.

Come on Nigel, you don't pay me for this service!!

I would suggest to anyone having these issues to just download a different (and better - that works properly with the majority of websites) browser, there are a few to choose from and they're all free.

IE has been a pain for years whereas Chrome, Firefox, Opera all work straight out of the box Smile IMHO.

Cheers,

I agree with you, Neil, that other browsers are better than IE. I've been using Firefox and Opera for some years on the various devices I use to access the Internet - though I wouldn't touch Chrome with a barge pole as I don't trust Google's treatment of personal data.

However, one has only to look at the queries that arise on forums of various types (not just motorhome) to realise that there are a heck of a lot of people out there who haven't a clue about alternative browsers.

In this case we have (apparently) a reasonably simple compatibility problem. Thus, the elegant solution seems to be to make the forum compatible with all browsers, rather than expect users to seek out a solution when they may well not know where to look.

I suspect that many of the people who Tony tries to help never see the posting because they just assume the forum is broken and don't come back - and that is hardly in the interests of PM.

Can't argue with that Graham, its just a shame that the most used browser (presumably because it is standard on the majority of new PCs) is actually so poor in function - the fact that it even includes a 'compatibility view' button is crazy.

Personally I would love to see more education for computer users to realise that there are alternative choices.

I have had some members of my own website have issues that have come down to the browser used, but in every case an alternative has been suggested which has cured any problem.

Perhaps the inclusion of links to the download pages for the alternatives would be a good first step towards users finding out just how easy it is to change their internet using experience for the better?

Cheers,

I agree, Neil. When we ran a business publishing data CDs a bug in IE8, allowed through by totally inadequate testing, caused us problems - but at least I got some compo out of Microsoft Smile

The major factor with PCs and users these days, though, is that many people view them as something which should be as easy to use as a TV. Even if more education is made available many people would not take it up.

Dear All,

Hello. I am attempting to send this both as a test post and an introduction as I am new around here.

I have tried before but failed but I have read this post following moderator Damian's advise.

I hope it works.

Regards,

John
