 Why tour here?

Mark Bigault said:

"Italy is full of passion and has a centuries old approach to life that is romantically appealing.

"I decided to delve deep into one section of the Italian Riviera in particular, the pretty little province of Liguria and the stretch of coastline east of Genoa (the region's capital) from Portofino to Portovenere. This strip of Ligurian shore is the Riviera di Levante.

"Portovenere surrounds a pretty port that sits in the shadow of the larger, military port of La Spezia and seems all the more attractive for its setting, against the latter's crane-covered skyline.

"The waterfront boasts wonderfully varied architecture where slender six-storey houses nudge aromatic fish restaurants and cafes. From here, you can also jump on a boat to tour the nearby archipelago, which includes Palmaria and the tiny Tino and Tinetto islands."
