If you’re faced with an expanse of empty beach this summer, and have a mobile phone plus a suitable vantage point, why not have a go at making your own stop-motion animated film?

That’s what Aardman Animations and Sand Sculpture Ice did, using a Nokia N8 phone and crane to hang it from. You’ll see why they needed that last bit of kit when you watch the short animation, called “Gulp” — one scene encompassed 11,000 square feet of sand.
